THE face of David Beckham is appearing on Young’s fish fingers, Mariners Pie and other top selling products in  a move to encourage healthier eating.

The Grimsby-based seafood giant has teamed up with the England soccer superstar for the World Cup kick off in South Africa next month.

On the company website Beckham proudly announces that fish fingers are one of his favourites, saying that he ate them as a youngsters – and still does because “they are a great source of Omega 3 for everyone”.

Young’s parent company, the Findus Group, announced the promotion this week with the Beckham-fronted GO3 brand to launch a healthy range of frozen fish products in time for June and the World Cup kick-off.

Natural fish oil supplement GO3 an alternative source of omega-3 is being introduced to five existing Young’s products to boost their levels of naturally occurring omega-3.

They include Young’s Fish Fingers, Flipper Dippers, Cod Cakes, Admiral’s Pie and Mariner’s Pie which will line up alongside the existing variants. Young’s said the launch will also be supported £1-million marketing campaign and the packaging will feature an image of Beckham.

It is not the first time that Young’s have recruited a sporting personality to promote its seafood. England rugby  international and Strictly Come Dancing start Matt Dawson  was used two years ago, but there is no doubt that Beckham is their biggest name to date.

Young’s managing director Mark Escolme said the aim was to encourage families to eat at least two portions of fish a week and adopt a healthier lifestyle.

He added: By partnering Young’s with GO3 and the ultimate role model in David Beckham we hope we will encourage UK consumers to take up a healthier lifestyle boosted by GO3 omega-3.  The power of his brand is huge, and as we go into the World Cup we are confident the range will be a massive success.”
