Net Gain ‘Developing North Sea Marine Conservation Zones’The Net Gain MCZ Project has been set up to plan and develop a network of Marine Conservation Zones (MCZs) in the North Sea through a stakeholder led process. The goal of the MCZ network will be to contribute to the UK Governments commitment of establishing an ecologically coherent network of effectively managed Marine Protected Areas by 2012 with the aim to safeguard marine biodiversity and to ensure the long-term sustainability of marine resources.To help achieve this goal, Net Gain is looking for people who want to make a real contribution to the conservation and sustainable use of our seas and we have the following positions available:

£25,000 – £32,000 depending on experience. 37 hours per week.You will lead a team of four Liaison Officers working throughout the Net Gain area. The liaison team provides the principal link between the project and marine stakeholders such as commercial fishermen, sea anglers and the recreational sector. The liaison team will play a key role in building awareness about the project, its goals and the importance of gaining good information of where maritime activities are concentrated. Your time will be divided between the Net Gain office (at the Deep in Hull), liaison officer outposts and coastal locations, discussing the project and using a questionnaire and mapping technique to collect activity data and knowledge from stakeholders through interviews. You will ensure a coordinated and effective approach to information gathering, collating data, evidence and opinion to pass to the project team.You should have an excellent knowledge and understanding of marine activities in the English North Sea, e.g. sea angling, commercial fishing, offshore renewables or other commercial interests. You should also have a higher level education in a relevant subject (marine biology, fisheries, ocean sciences, environmental science or related subject), professional qualifications, or extensive experience gained in one or more maritime industries. You should have proven experience in working with a wide cross section of people, be an excellent communicator and have a confident, outgoing manner.
