Search for missing winkle picker resumes Published: 03 September, 2007
THE search was due to continue this morning for a missing winkle picker in the Ullapool area.
At 9pm last night, Stornoway Coastguard received a 999 call reporting a missing 42 year-old man.
The missing person was reported to have been winkle picking on the foreshore to the west of Ullapool village, and had been last seen in that area at 4pm. Weather conditions were favourable with light winds and good visibility.
Ullapool Coastguard rescue team, Stornoway Coastguard helicopter rescue MU, and Lochinver RNLI Lifeboat were tasked to search the area. Liaison with Ullapool Police and Highland Constabulary was maintained throughout. Following an extensive search of the Loch Broom shoreline and waters, with nothing found, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said it would resume the search this morning, with further input from Coastguard rescue teams and helicopter.
