Seafood village opening only three weeks away Published: 30 April, 2012
GRIMSBY’S new seafood village is now just three weeks away from receiving its first tenants, its creators have declared.
The £2.4 million project was thrown into turmoil last month when the main contractor, QA Construction, suddenly ceased trading. But the Grimsby Seafood Village Company was able to recruit new project managers and the final stages of construction were back up and running after a break of a few days.
Seafood Village joint managing director said: “To our huge relief a lot of people rallied to our help and we are now set to open around the middle of May when ten of the units should be occupied. The interest is increasing now that people can see that we are almost there.”
He added: “We believe it will be a great asset to Grimsby and its seafood industry. Something like this has been needed to project a more modern image for a long time. If any seafood is thinking of relocating to Grimsby because this is the centre of the UK fish processing sector – then we would be happy to show them our new facility. Both myself and my business partner in this project strongly believe that anyone who is serious about being in the fish business should be in Grimsby.”
The Grimsby seafood village will be the largest facility of its type in the country and there are a further 27 acres of spare land should they want to build a second stage. A formal opening ceremony will be held later in the year.
