SOUTH Africa’s environmental affairs minister said yesterday he had postponed an indefinite ban on commercial abalone fishing designed to guard against poaching of the shellfish, which is increasingly popular in Asia.

According to Reuters, Marthinus van Schalkwyk told a media briefing: “I have decided to delay the implementation of the decision to February 1, 2008.”
