Seasalter Shellfish (Whitstable) Ltd are pioneers in mollusc culture technology. We are suppliers of shellfish seed and market size oysters, clams and cockles farmed on our freehold fisheries in Kent.
The Company has been producing top quality seed for over 30 years & has a hatchery, extensive nursery & grow-out facilities situated in Reculver & Seasalter in North Kent, England. The company hatchery operates from Reculver, eight miles East of Whitstable where the hatchery and several nursery systems are situated. An extensive pond system covering 8 hectares allows the luxury of good water quality management resulting in year round mollusc seed production.
We are currently looking for a suitably qualified and self-motivated Oyster Hatchery Manager for our site at Reculver, Kent.
Potential candidates should possess a good scientific background, preferably with some research experience, be conscientious in relation to recording and maintaining reliable data records, have good communication & planning skills and a degree of computer literacy is also essential and candidates must hold a full drivers licence
The keys responsibilities of the post involve
The day to day running of the aquaculture facility at Reculver Management pond systems and water quality. (Assessing the fertility of the water devising & employing means of controlling macro algae and filter feeding organisms which might invade the system.) Overseeing the management of the nursery system (Cleaning, grading & stock checks.) Some maintenance work (e.g. pump systems and plumbing)
The post brings with it significant responsibility and the appointed Oyster Hatchery Manager will be required to be flexible in terms of total hours and days worked, in order to satisfy the demands of the role and the business. It is also a requirement of the post that the candidate is available to work at weekends.

Physically Fit Willing to work outdoors Innovative Numerate and computer literate Organised and able to handle a variety of tasks at any one time Flexible A good individual worker and self starter Able to work with others
some mechanical skills (pumps, electrics, motor maintenance etc.)& some knowledge of marine science/aquaculture would also be beneficial
