Leaders recognised with awards at Global Food – Fishupdate.com

NEARLY 300 participants of the Global Food Alaska 2007 Conference and Business show filed into the Kenai Landing’s Sockeye Theatre to join in celebrating this year’s leadership awards announcement.

Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin welcomed the conference attendees to Alaska paying special tribute to a distinguished delegation of buyers from South Korea and the Crab Captains of the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch series.

She then supported the events purpose by addressing Alaska’s rich heritage in maximising its bounty of marine and land for the health and well beings of its people, as well as sharing its significant economic contribution to Alaska.

As a result of the first gathering of Alaska’s supply chain with its buyers, Governor Palin presented an Executive Proclamation that June 13 and 14, 2007 be declared Global Food Alaska Day.

Ruby Hollembaek, Global Food Alaska Awards Committee Chair, then read a short introduction about each award winner and a list of their accomplishments. As the names were read, Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin presented each award winner with their leadership award.

Finalists were announced in three separate categories, with rousing applause from the audience – most of whom are directly involved in Alaska’s supply chain of food.

Categories and winners:

. Grower/Harvester/Direct-Marketer: An individual, who has demonstrated leadership that grows, harvests or markets Alaska food, beverage or bio products.

_ Bruce Gore – Triad Fisheries – 2007 Award Winner

. Manufacturer/Processor: An individual who has demonstrated leadership that processes or manufactures Alaska food, beverage or bio products.

_ Chuck Bundrant – Trident Seafoods – 2007 Award Winner

. Market Development: An individual that played a significant role in pulling Alaska food, beverage or bio products into the local, national or international market place.

_ Rob Baer and Mark Witteveen – Alaska Spirit – 2007 Award
