Fundraising effort by Strathaird Published: 25 August, 2004
Two employees from Strathaird Salmon Ltd in Inverness are gearing up to take part in what has been described as the toughest footrace on Earth.
Human Resources manager Bill Macdonald and Canteen Manager David Black will take part in the Marathon des Sables race in the Sahara Desert in Morocco next spring.
Competitors in the gruelling six-day marathon over rough terrain will
experience mid-day temperatures of up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit and will have to carry a rucksack on their backs containing essential items such as food, clothes, medical kit and sleeping bag.
Its a tremendous challenge and as well as physical strength will require a lot of mental stamina too, states Bill Macdonald. But David and I are really keen to take part and we are now looking for sponsorship as we intend to raise as much money as possible for charity.
The official website for the event says: The heat, distance and rubbing will trash your feet and may cause severe trauma if incorrect shoes and equipment are used.
Anyone wanting to support Bill and David in the event, should contact them direct at Strathaird Salmon, telephone 01463 715123.
