ATLANTIC FRESH SPURS GROWTH WITH MBO Published:  18 April, 2011

Supply chain management will increasingly be the key element of successful fish trading, reports Atlantic Fresh Ltd following a management buyout of the holdings of the founders of Isberg and Icebrit, the companies which merged to form the Icelandic-owned business.

Magnus Gudmundsson, chief executive of Atlantic Fresh on its formation in 2005, said: “Peter Bjornsson, who founded Isberg in Hull, and Icebrit’s Pall Sveinsson in Grimsby established businesses with a firm supplier base. That was the foundation on which we have developed the marketing systems and valued added chain that has taken us further into Europe. Their reward is our inheritance.” The company is headquartered in Grimsby where Orn Eyfjord Jonsson becomes managing director and Magnus Gudmundsson chairman with a special focus on growth opportunities. The company will continue to trade from both Humber ports and through Atlantic Fresh (Europe) Ltd., which has an office in Boulogne. Orn Jonsson said: “The Humber is a logistics hub, especially for fish, and that is a matter of geography as much as tradition. As resource management continues to improve, the supply chain becomes even more critical in maintaining the quality of an increasingly valuable product. There have been concerns over the future of supplies to the Humber but, as our re-structuring shows, we are confident we have the supply chain management that is needed.”
