Work starting this month on Maine RAS farm site

Great Northern Salmon (GNS), the company looking to build the first recirculating aquaculture system in the US state of Maine, says it is about to start work on preparing the ground at its construction site.

GNS is building a RAS facility with capacity for 10,000 tonnes of salmon annually, in Millinocket, Maine. Pre-construction work is expected to start this month, in collaboration with the site owner, Our Katahdin.

A high profile salmon company is facing a difficult future  following the publication of its latest results in the past couple of days. That business is the Grieg Seafood Company  which saw its share price drop sharply in Oslo yesterday.
Of all the big Norwegian salmon farmers, Grieg has so far  produced the most disappointing Q2 results.

Loch Duart expansion plans hit 2024 profits

Independent salmon farmer Loch Duart Ltd saw a big drop in profits for the year to 31 March 2024 – but the company says this reflects the cost of its plans for growth. Turnover for the Scottish-based company was £43.08m (2023: £52.5m) and operating profit was down to £1.29m from the previous year’s £4.67m.
