Mowi has decided that salmon farmer Nova Sea, its big acquisition last year, will be merged into the main group. The “Nova Sea” brand will remain with a separate company running sales and marketing.

Mowi, which already had a sizeable stake in the independent family business, bought a controlling interest for NOK 7.4 billion (£500 million plus).
The deal received both EU and Norwegian government approval towards the end of 2025.
Mowi said this week that it has started to integrate Nova Sea into the parent business Mowi ASA.
It added: “In line with the original plan, Mowi has since worked on integrating the companies. With the formalities in place, Nova Sea will be formally incorporated into Mowi from March 3, 2026.
Mowi CEO Ivan Vindheim added: “Nova Sea has been a leading star in Norwegian aquaculture for a number of years, with strong biological results and margins at the very top of the industry.
“We are committed to preserving this when we now become one company. After several decades as a significant owner, it is very gratifying that we are now formally joining forces.”
Mowi executive vice president Øyvind Oaland also said: “With Nova Sea on board, Mowi Norway will strengthen its position as a locomotive in both the Mowi Group and the global aquaculture industry as a whole.”
The deal means that Mowi will have an expected harvest volume of 380,000 tonnes in Norway and 605,000 tonnes worldwide this year.
The brand "Nova Sea" will remain after the merger in a separate company, and the salmon will be sold by the sales and marketing team on the island of Lovund in Nordland where the company is based.
