The Florida-based salmon farmer Atlantic Sapphire has turned the corner at last, according to its CEO, Pedro Courard.
The company has just released its 2025 first-half results in which it reported a harvest volume of 2,486 tonnes, against 2,384 tonnes in the first half of 2024.
The average harvest weight nearly doubled to 2.86 kg in the first half of the year, reaching 3.1 kg in the second quarter.
Atlantic Sapphire said selling prices increased by 86%, to US $8.67 per kg (£6.46), with fresh sales in the second quarter reaching US $9.27 per kg (£6.90).
The Atlantic Sapphire report said the output included a high premium share with mortality at record lows along with stronger feeding and steady biomass gain. There was also a continued improvement in system reliability with less downtime, stable water quality, and strengthened standard operating procedures.
CEO Courard said: “The first half of 2025 represents a turning point for Atlantic Sapphire.
“Operations are now stable, biological performance is at record levels, and financial results are rapidly improving. With harvest weights above 3kg and prices higher than reference price indices in Q2, we have clear line of sight to profitability.”
He added: “We expect to deliver our first positive EBITDA quarter by the end of 2026 and see a clear foundation for profitable growth and expansion from there.”
Atlantic Sapphire’s phase 1 facility is in operation, which provides the capacity to harvest up to around 9,500 tonnes (head on, gutted) of salmon a year.
It completed its first commercial harvest in the US in September 2020. Atlantic Sapphire is currently constructing its Phase 2 expansion, which will bring total annual production capacity to 25,000 tonnes with a long-term target of 220,000 tonnes.
