FEED company BioMar has appointed farming veteran David Whyte to run its new plant in Tasmania, due to open in early 2020. Whyte, a marine biologist with 32 years’ experience in aquaculture, was chief operating officer at New Zealand King Salmon for a period last year. He has had leading roles at Marine Harvest Scotland (now Mowi) and at Huon in Australia, and was previously at BioMar in the late 1990s. Dr Patrick Campbell, vice president of BioMar’s Salmon Division, said: ‘David will bring an impressive combination of experience to our business. ‘He possesses a deep understanding of aquaculture built up over a lifetime in the industry. His breadth of knowledge and commitment to customers makes him ideally suited to lead BioMar Australia in the next phase of its development.’ Whyte said: ‘I am excited to take this new professional challenge to build a high performing team and firmly establish BioMar in Australia and New Zealand. ‘It’s a tremendous opportunity and a significant responsibility to meet the expectation of our customers, staff, community and shareholders.’ He will join the company in mid-July 2019.
