The Witzøe family, which owns the salmon farming giant SalMar, is donating millions of kroner to support the Ukrainian war effort against Russia.

Recently, they have allocated at least 2.5 million Norwegian kroner to purchase special military drones through their investment company Kvarv.
Another 2.5 million Norwegian kroner has been raised by several other Norwegian donors. These funds have been donated to the Third Assault Brigade, which is fighting on the front lines. These drones help Ukrainian soldiers better detect enemy positions on the battlefield.
Gustav Witzøe Sr, director of Kvarv, said the company had already donated to the Ukrainian war effort several times. He added that no one can do everything, but everyone must do something, and this latest initiative was the family’s contribution.
Norway supports Ukraine through various means, including financial aid, humanitarian assistance, and a modernized free trade agreement.
Ukrainians fleeing the war can apply for temporary collective protection in Norway, which initially grants them a one-year residence permit, renewable for up to four years.
Many Norwegians fear that if Russia defeats Ukraine, their country will be next in line.
Natalia Golis, Secretary General of Free Ukraine, said: "This type of targeted support [from Kvarv] has a significant impact directly on the front lines. The drones will help improve surveillance, coordination, and the protection of soldiers."
Kvarv is the Witzøe family’s investment company. Its operating profit is reportedly over £2.6 billion. Witzøe Sr.’s son, Gustav Magnar, joined the board last year.
