Seafood processing technology business JBT Marel has signed a deal with salmon producer Bakkafrost, to supply Marel’s new EVi salmon gutting machine.
The agreement, announced at Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona, represents Marel’s first foray into the salmon gutting market.
Andrias Petersen, Group Harvest Director at Bakkafrost, and Skúli Sigurðsson, VP of Fish at JBT Marel, signed a contract for the purchase of the first Evi.
The two companies had collaborated on the Evi prototype, including on-site development and testing at Bakkafrost’s facilities in the Faroe Islands. The EVi demonstrated promising results, Marel said, leading to this agreement that reflects the value of the technology and the strong working relationship between the two companies.
The EVi is now being integrated into Bakkafrost’s production line for further stress testing and hands-on use. In a joint statement, the two companies said the move from offline prototype to active installation reflects Bakkafrost’s confidence in JBT Marel’s solutions and continues a partnership that began in 2007.
Úlfar Arnórsson, Director Products, Marel Fish, said: “It’s great to see the first EVi installation going into operation at Bakkafrost. This marks our entry into the salmon gutting segment, where we’re focused on delivering solid performance and cleaning quality through intelligent processing. We’re looking forward to continued collaboration with Bakkafrost.”
