He was arrested in Florida in November on felony fraud, money laundering, and grand theft charges. He pleaded not guilty in court earlier this month, and is out on bail.

Pearl co-founded American Mariculture (AMI), the company behind Sun Shrimp, founded shrimp genetics producer American Penaeid, and serves as president for both companies.

Pearl’s alleged crimes occurred between February 2018 and October 2024, according to an affidavit filed in court.

Pearl is being represented by a court-appointed lawyer after claiming in court documents that he has no assets other than $50 (€42.65) in cash.
