Dar es Salaam, which can be loosely translated to "haven of peace," is East Africa’s fastest-growing city, with a population of over 4 million inhabitants. It serves as a commercial hub located along a natural harbor on the Indian Ocean and is home to a diverse population, including Tanzanians, other Africans, Arabic speakers, South Asians, and Europeans. The city is strategically positioned along some of the most important sea routes in the world, making it East Africa’s second-busiest port. Dar es Salaam also features several beautiful beaches and provides easy access to the popular tourist destination of Zanzibar, and the renowned world-class safari experiences within its iconic national parks (eg the Serengeti).

Hosted by the government of the Republic of Tanzania, the event will be held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC), one of the largest convention centers in Tanzania. The technical program for WA26T will focus on developmental issues, presenting the latest research and advancements in aquaculture both in Africa and globally. The thematic plenary and parallel technical sessions will include submitted oral and poster presentations in English, French, Portuguese, and Arabic. WA26T will also feature an international trade exhibition, industry forums, student sessions and activities, satellite workshops (including training sessions), and various meetings/forums focused on aquaculture development in Tanzania, Africa, and beyond.

The international conference will center around the theme “Aquaculture Driving Blue Transformation.” It will highlight lessons learned from Tanzania and other countries regarding the vital role that sustainable aquaculture plays in building resilient food systems and promoting economic growth.
