Salmon farmer supports Isle of Skye Half Marathon

Scottish salmon producer Bakkafrost Scotland is to continue its relationship with the Isle of Skye Half Marathon 2023, which will include a new 10k event for the first time this year.

The event takes place this Saturday (10 June) including the introduction of the 10K event, which which will be a chip-timed run starting from the 11k Half Marathon Marker.

This year mental health and welfare will be at the heart of the race, with the Skye Half Marathon and the 10K both supporting Skye & Lochalsh Mental Health Association. During the registration process participants will have the option to donate to help fundraise for the essential support the charity facilitates on the island.

A stand will be available at Portree High School on the day of the event for The Samaritans highlighting their new Skye & Lochalsh service as well as the vial work they do for suicide prevention in the area.

Skye Cancer Care and Skye & Lochalsh Citizens Advice Bureau are also partner charities for Skye Events. This year the Skye Events Community Fund will donate £1000 to each organisation to support the crucial work they carry out in the community.

It would be impossible for us to stage such a large event without the support of Bakkafrost which is an ideal partner as champions of food sustainability and their pillars for a healthy living agenda.

“Their support allows us to provide a platform for charities such as Samaritans Scotland to raise awareness of the vital work they do, particularly in remote areas such as Skye. With multi-agencies and the community coming together in this way we are stronger together. We look forward to the race being a big success and welcoming runners from home and from across the UK.”
