Osland Havbruk signs up for two FiiZK cages
Norwegian salmon farmer Osland Havbruk has signed a deal for two semi-closed cages from aquaculture technology business FiiZK.
FiiZK will supply two turnkey Certus 30000 semi-closed containment systems to Osland, which plans to grow its fish to harvest size in the enclosures.
The two cages will offer a total of 60,000 m3 of lice-free farming volume at the Mjølsvik site in the Sognefjord, the largest and deepest fjord in Norway.
A specially designed rigid floating collar in steel provides the right buoyancy, and acts as a safe work platform for site staff. An Industrial PVC fabric – produced at FiiZK’s factory at Frekhaug – encloses the production volume. A net installed inside the PVC bag acts as double protection against fish escapes.
Eight independent seawater intakes pump water from under the lice zone into the production volume. The cage environment is continuously monitored and documented by a sensor network. If necessary, oxygen is added automatically. The control and management system ensures automatic operation and an in-built alarm system will alert the operator in the event of deviations from the norm. In addition to the delivery of the cages, Osland and FiiZK said they will work closely together to monitor system operation, fish health and optimal fish performance.
Erik Osland, General Manager with Osland Havbruk and Magnus Stendal, Business Developer for Closed Cages with FiiZK, said in a joint statement that they have high expectations for the delivery, based on the broad experience both parties already have in closed farming at sea.
