Aqua Nor to get the royal treatment again
CROWN Prince Haakon of Norway is to attend the official opening of the Aqua Nor exhibition in Trondheim this August.
The visit marks the 20th time in the biennial event’s 40-year history that a member of the Norwegian royal family has been present at the show.
Aqua Nor is the world\’s largest trade exhibition for fish farming technology, and has been running since 1979.
This year’s exhibition, from August 20-23, will be held at the recently expanded Trondheim Spektrum, and will be larger than all previous Aqua Nor expos.
About 600 exhibitors from 26 countries are registered, and around 25,000 visitors are expected from between 60 and 80 countries.
In recent years, Aqua Nor has established a strong position in the international aquaculture industry, and several official delegations are expected this year- including Scotland’s Rural Economy minister, Fergus Ewing.
The Norwegian royals have long shown their interest in Norway\’s second largest export industry by being present at Aqua Nor and Nor Fishing, both run by the Nor-Fishing Foundation.
During the first modern fisheries exhibition in Bergen in 1960, King Olav conducted the official opening. Aqua Nor 2019 will be the sixth time Crown Prince Haakon has been present on the opening day.
