Salmon farmer in prize line-up
THE Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) has been shortlisted for three prizes in two prestigious national awards.
The company is a finalist in the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards 2018, in the Export Business of the Year category and also as Food Service Product of the Year, for its Native Hebridean Salmon.
And in the CIS Excellence Awards 2018 – which recognise the best of the Scottish hospitality, catering and tourism sectors -SSC has been selected as a finalist in the Business Innovation Awards category, again for Native Hebridean Salmon.
SSC’s innovative broodstock programme has been in development for a number of years and takes the company’s commitment to Scottish provenance a step further, said a spokesman.
Welcoming the news of the awards, SSC chief executive Craig Anderson (pictured) said: ‘To be shortlisted in the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards and the CIS Excellence Awards is great recognition of our commitment to provenance, innovation and exporting the finest, freshest Scottish salmon around the world.
‘To have Native Hebridean nominated as both a Food Service Product of the Year and for Business Innovation is testament to the hard work and investment that SSC has made to this premium flagship product.’
Loch Fyne Oysters is also shortlisted in the Scotland Food & Drink awards’ Export Business of the Year category, as well making the Primary Producer of the Year and the Fish and Seafood shortlists.
Two other seafood companies, Fishbox and Salar Smokehouse, are also finalists in the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards.
James Withers, chief executive of Scotland Food & Drink, said: ‘This year there were some really competitively fought categories and our panel of expert judges have had the hard task creating a shortlist from over 270 entries.
‘It’s set to be a great event and I am delighted to see some fantastic businesses, products and people as finalists. Congratulations and good luck to all those shortlisted.’
