YOUNG’S Seafood is launching Gastro Meals for One following earlier success of its gastro range. They are designed to appeal specifically to the single diner or can be added to the Gastro ‘meals for two’ to cater for three people.
Young’s said the Gastro range is already one of the most successful new product development launches in frozen food, achieving a 10.8 per cent household penetration and a repeat rate of 45 per, while 42 per cent of sales are incremental to frozen fish.
The Gastro brand is now worth £20.9 million and is one of the fastest growing frozen brands. The move into ready meals follows consumer research by fish specialists Young’s, which highlighted strong demand for premium frozen ready meal options and great tasting fish.
Commenting on the launch, Yvonne Adam, Marketing Director of Young’s Seafood Limited, said: ‘Gastro was originally launched to provide restaurant quality fish dishes for two, reflecting the trend towards couples eating in rather than going out, and the range is now enjoyed by over 2.5 million households.
‘The full Gastro range includes a wide range of fish fillets and dishes and continues to attract a lot of new shoppers to the frozen aisles.
‘Extending Gastro into Meals for One was the natural next move for the range. We listened to consumers who told us they also wanted a treat to enjoy on their own, which reflects the growing interest in premium frozen ready meals.

Young’s Development Chef, Serge Nollent, who worked to create the new dishes, added: ‘These new Gastro dishes combine flaky, succulent responsibly sourced fish, fragrant herbs and sauces.

The meals for one range includes: Cod, spinach and Cheese gratin; Pink salmon, Alaska Pollock and cherry tomato bake and Alaska Pollock, white wine and Parmesan risotto.
