Recently launched from the Hatsan yard in Turkey, the vessel is now being completed by Çeliktrans Deniz Isaaat Ltd. in Istanbul. Víkingur is a sister vessel to Venus that the Turkish yard delivered to HB Grandi in May.
The Icelandic fishing company’s marine superintendent Thórarinn Sigurbjörnsson, who has overseen the construction, said: “The plan is to complete and deliver Víkingur around the end of November and for the ship to sail from Turkey in the first week in December.”
He said that all of the steelwork had been completed . Engineers have been working on finishing the pipe runs for the winch system, laying electrical cables, fitting cabinets for equipment and working on fitting out the cabins, mess and wheelhouse.
Mr Sigurbjörnsson added: “All of the gensets have been load tested and the finishing touches are being put to the main engine, gearbox and shaft generator as well as preparing for starting up the ship’s systems and equipment.” He has also been overseeing the construction of three new wetfish trawlers that are also being built at Çeliktrans for HB Grandi and should be delivered next year..
“Constructing the blocks is going well and at the moment they are building blocks for two vessels. Engey RE, which is the first in the series, is taking shape as the blocks are assembled. The main engine, gearbox, shaft generator and genset have all been placed in the engine room and the stern is scheduled to be complete shortly,” said Thórarinn Sigurbjörnsson. HB Grandi is rapdily modernising its fleet in both the pelagic and white fish sectors.
