Chinese tourists flocking to Yorkshire chippy

A fish and chip restaurant in North Yorkshire has decided to  published its menu in Mandarin and Cantonese  after receiving  scores of Chinese visitors during the past few months.
They have been coming in coachloads to Scotts Fish and Chips at Bilbrough near the historic city of York which in itself has been attracting thousands of tourists from China.
The passion for the British favourite  has been put  down to Chinese president Xi Jinping after he shared a plate of fish and chips with the then Prime Minister David Cameron in 2015.
Three years  ago, The Regency Seafood Restaurant in Brighton on the English  South Coast experienced  a similar ‘invasion’ by  Chinese visitors, but that was put down to the restaurant being flagged up all over China  on social media.
Scotts manager Roxy Vasai said more than 100 Chinese tourists a week  were visiting  the establishment. They not only tucked into their meal but were taking photographs of the staff and building, both inside an out.

The restaurant\’s location is also thought to be one of the reasons for the influx because it is on the main route for tour groups visiting York from London. Scotts have also launched a webpage with a messaging service on one of China’s most popular social media sites in a bid to promote the chippy further.
Will Zhuang, ambassador for Make It York, an organisation which promotes the city, said many Chinese visitors had been influenced by their president sampling a fish and chip supper during his visit to the UK in 2015. He added that because of this many Chinese tour operators had included  the \”fish and chip experience\” to their itineraries.
