UK firms head to Bergen conference

MORE than 25 UK seafood companies will participate in the North Atlantic Seafood Forum (NASF) conference in Bergen, Norway, from March 3 to 6, as part of a NASF UK and Seafish initiative.
The delegation represents enterprises with a total annual turnover of around £6.3 billion.
Most of the firms are from the fish processing industry, while some come from seafood imports, processing equipment and services.
The UK seafood processing industry consists of 317 companies operating across 333 sites. They provide 14,305 full-time equivalent jobs and employ a total of 15,310 people.
All the five major Scottish aquaculture companies will be attending, representing an industry that produces more than 150,000 tonnes per year and supports as many as 8,000 Scottish jobs and contributes a turnover up to £1.4 billion for Scotland.
UK NASF representative Simon Dwyer (pictured) said: ‘The UK seafood industry has been a major supporter of the NASF conference since the beginning.
‘To celebrate the 10th anniversary we are publishing a UK delegates’ brochure. Young’s Seafood and Findus Group have been major sponsors of the conference for many years.
‘Other supporters are the Seafish Authority, M&J Seafoods, Scottish Salmon Company and major UK retailer Asda.’
