The Kingfish Company reaches profit milestone
In a significant step for land-based aquaculture, yellowtail producer The Kingfish Company has recorded an operating profit for the first half of this year.
The Netherlands-based company achieved positive operational EBITDA (operating profit) of €0.2 million (£171,000) in H1 2026. This compares with a loss of €2.5 million (£2.13m) in H1 2025.
The Kingfish Company operates a RAS (recirculating aquaculture system) farm in the Netherlands and has plans to build another in the north-eastern US state of Maine.
The latest figures are unaudited and have been released ahead of the company’s planned “repair” share offering.
They represent more information on EBITDA and gross margin – which has more than doubled compared with H1 2025 – on top of the sales, revenue and production figures released on 30 July.
Vincent Erenst, CEO of The Kingfish Company, commented: “Achieving positive operational EBITDA for the first half of 2026 is an important milestone for us and demonstrates the progress we are making on our path to profitability.
“This has been a demanding period for the organisation, with the restructuring running alongside the operational work, and I am very proud of what our team has delivered. Together with the strengthened balance sheet following the financing completed in June, this provides a solid foundation to continue scaling towards full utilisation of our existing capacity, and create the conditions for the company’s future expansion.”
Over the past few years, large-scale RAS aquaculture ventures have struggled to reach profit, and the latest figures from The Kingfish Company will add to hopes that this sector could prove to be successful.
