Supermarkets slammed for mislabelling ‘Scottish salmon’

CAMPAIGNERS have called for measures to be taken against supermarkets that are marketing Norwegian farmed salmon as wild Scottish salmon.
A report in today’s Scotsman says that the group Protect Wild Scotland has made a formal complaint to the Competition and Markets authority claiming that a number of supermarkets are deliberately misleading customers by mislabelling salmon.
A complaints has also been made to Trading Standards about what it calls ‘systemic failures in the marketing of Scottish salmon’.
In an immediate response to the allegations, Aldi has said: ‘For the avoidance of any further confusion, we will be removing the “Best of Scotland” in-store branding located next to the product in question.’
