Skippers’ show boasts record crowd

A RECORD number of exhibitors and visitors ensured that last week’s Skipper Expo Int. Aberdeen 2016 was a major success, with excellent levels of business reported.
The number of exhibiting companies was up by 60 per cent compared to last year’s expo, which proved a major attraction for the 1,700 visitors who attended over the two days (May 27 and 28).
Several new boat building orders were signed by skippers at the show and this level of industry optimism was reflected right across the spectrum of exhibitors as they enjoyed brisk business.
Sponsored by the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation, highlights included fishing vessel displays within the spacious exhibition hall and safety demonstrations of flotation and sea survival equipment by the RNLI.
The Scottish Seafood Association stand, working in partnership with Box Pool Solutions and the Scottish White Fish Producers’ Association, proved a magnet for visitors attracted by the quality seafood served up by the chefs from the Buchan Braes Hotel.
The expo also had a strong international flavour, with exhibitors present from 17 different countries, including major presences from both Norway and Denmark.
Sharon Boyle of show organiser Mara Media said: ‘It was a fantastic show and we would like to thank everyone in the fishing industry for their superb support.
‘Several people commented on how much the show resembled the peak years it used to enjoy in the past, which is a great testament to how the event has grown in recent times.
‘We are already making plans for next year’s show, Skipper Expo Int. Aberdeen 2017, where we hope to further build upon this success.’
