Shellfish growers’ conference: ‘We are in it together’

Mairi Gougeon, Secretary for Rural Affairs and Islands at the ASSG Conference

“We are all in this together” was a fitting theme for the Association of Scottish Shellfish Growers (ASSG) annual conference and trade show, which returned to Oban in October, following a pandemic break.

In the November issue of Fish Farmer, which can be viewed online, Nicki Holmyard reports on the conference and the awards for best seafood which were announced.

Embracing the wider aquaculture world, the event featured representatives from marine finfish, shellfish and seaweed, speaking about the opportunities and challenges for their sectors.

Rural Affairs Secretary Mairi Gougeon opened the conference and other speakers included Dr Kyla Orr, Director of Kelpcrofting, Stephen Cameron, Managing Director of the Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group (SSMG), Michael Tate, MD of Shetland Mussels and Rory Campbell of the Irish aquaculture and fisheries agency BIM.
