Børge Grønbech, director of global operations at the Norwegian Seafood Council, has been appointed as the organisation’s new chief executive, with immediate effect.

He takes over from Renate Larsen, who announced in February that she was stepping down after six years in the key industry post.

She said: “I wish Børge good luck in his new role and I am very happy that he is the person I am handing over responsibility.”

She added: “Even though I have now formally resigned, I will be available to both the board and Børge for some time to come.”

The Norwegian Seafood Council has a sizeable budget and is one of the most active seafood industry promotional organisations in the world with offices in London, Paris, Beijing and the United States.

Norwegian seafood exports are worth well over NOK 100bn (£8.5bn) a year – and rising – with farmed salmon the main driver.

Børge Grønbech, has been director of global operations since May 2018 and has been employed by the Seafood Council for the past 24 years.

He has held several key positions within the council , including marketing director at the head office and fisheries envoy in Boston, USA.

Grønbech has a degree in fisheries with a master’s degree in international marketing and an MBA in Seafood Management.

He said: “I am both proud and grateful to have this opportunity. I look forward to taking on a new role in the Seafood Council and promise that we will continue to deliver on our most important vision, namely to win the world over to Norwegian seafood.”
