THE Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) has become the first salmon producer in Scotland to be awarded Best Aquaculture Practice (BAP) certification for all its marine sites.
BAP is the only certification to cover the entire aquaculture production chain, from hatcheries to farms to processing plants.
The SSC’s BAP certification has been awarded to all of its marine sites on the first stage of the company’s journey to achieve full BAP accreditation across all its operations
BAP is administered by the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) and is compliant with the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), Global Social Compliance Programme (GSCP) and Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI).
Craig Anderson (pictured), chief executive of the Scottish Salmon Company, said: ‘To be the first salmon producer in Scotland to be awarded BAP certification for all our marine sites is a true recognition of our exacting standards, as well as our passion and commitment to producing premium quality Scottish salmon in a sustainable and responsible way.
‘Our focus is on developing a platform for sustainable business growth. With our BAP certification we are able to further leverage the provenance and quality of our products to drive our international export strategy, particularly to key targets markets in North America and the Far East.’
Mike Berthet, BAP market development manager for Europe, said: ‘We look forward to supporting SSC in the development of their BAP certified Scottish salmon in the global market.’
