Salmon farmer helps fund shinty success

THE Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) has provided Inveraray Shinty Club with funding towards new training kit and equipment.

The donation, through SSC’s community fund, will allow the club’s junior team to invest in goal posts as well as training kit, enhancing its ability to compete in games and tournaments.

The new portable goals will be used during outdoor training sessions and open day competitions.

Inveraray Shinty Club was established in 1877, and today the club continues to progress, achieving great success in regular competitions.

The team has particularly excelled in the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup, having won the trophy nine times.

The Scottish Salmon Company’s fund, set up in 2017 as part of its Community Charter, encourages SSC staff to nominate local groups, charities and organisations that support health and wellbeing for a grant of up to £250.

The shinty team was nominated by Barbara Burden, canteen supervisor at SSC, to receive the funding.

Craig Anderson, chief executive of the Scottish Salmon Company, said: ‘We are committed to supporting the rural communities where our staff live and work.

‘Inveraray Shinty Club does great work promoting health and wellbeing in the local area. We’re delighted to support with funding for new equipment and hope this will encourage others to participate.’

Euan McMurdo, chairman of Inveraray Shinty Club, said: ‘We’re so grateful to the Scottish Salmon Company for their generous donation.

‘Their support means a lot to us and will greatly benefit our junior team. It will also improve the quality of the training that our club provides and encourage more participation from young people in the Inveraray area.’
