Salmon Evolution releases second batch of smolts

Land-based fish farmer Salmon Evolution ASA has announced that it has successfully completed the second smolt release at its site at Indre Harøy, Norway.

The latest batch release, on 13 July, comprised about 230,000 smolt with an average weight of around 125 grams.

The company reports that the operation went according to plan with no negative indicators identified.

As reported in the operational update on 4 July 2022, the second batch smolt volumes have been significantly upsized from original plans and now also include the volumes originally intended for release in August.

Salmon Evolution is a Norwegian land-based salmon farming company targeting a production capacity of 100,000 tonnes HOG (head on, gutted) by 2032.

The company operates a hybrid flow-through system technology (HFS), which is says secures a sustainable production process with controlled and optimal growth conditions and limits operational and biological risk.

Salmon Evolution’s first production facility is located at Indre Harøy on the Norwegian west coast. Phase 1 is already in operation and will have an annual capacity of 7,900 tonnes HOG at steady state. Fully developed, the Indre Harøy facility will have an annual capacity of 31,500 tonnes HOG

The company has also entered into a joint venture with Dongwon Industries to develop, construct and operate a land-based salmon farming facility in South Korea with an annual production capacity of 16,800 tonnes HOG, using Salmon Evolution’s HFS technology.

Salmon Evolution has also, it says, initiated a process with the aim of establishing a land-based salmon farming operation in North America.
