Independent salmon farmer Organic Sea Harvest has appointed Robert Wyvill as Chief Operating Officer (COO). He takes up his post just ahead of the company’s first commercial harvest, expected this spring.
As COO, Wyvill Robert will be responsible for all OSH’s day-to-day operations, including ensuring OSH’s continued growth, negotiating with local suppliers and planning ahead.
Wyvill, originally from North Uist in the Hebrides, joins from Petuna Aquaculture in Tasmania, where he has been working as General Manager of Marine Operations. Prior to that he worked for Mowi on Skye and Muck. At the latter site, which he managed, he recorded the lowest mortality rate and the highest superior rating in Mowi’s history, positioning Muck as Mowi’s top Scottish site and fifth for the company worldwide.
He commented: “I’m very excited to return to the Highlands and have the chance to work with Organic Sea Harvest as they develop their vision for the future. Having worked for the past 24 years in aquaculture, I am looking forward to bringing my experience to the role as Organic Sea Harvest works to create an outstanding product and support the overall Scottish aquaculture industry.”

OSH currently employ 13 full-time staff members at two Skye sea sites, Culnacnoc and Invertote, and seven others attached to administrative functions. OSH also have partnerships with 31 Skye businesses.
In January, the Soil Association confirmed that OSH meets the standards to be considered an “organic” producer. In the same month, however, Highland Council’s North Planning Application Committee turned down the company’s planning application for a new fish farm at Balmaqueen in the north-east of Skye.
