Mowi Scotland’s long-serving Head of Sales, Georgina Wright, is to leave the company after 27 years. She will be leaving Mowi at the end of March.

Wright began her Mowi career with McConnell Salmon in 1994 which then became Marine Harvest, now Mowi, and she has worked for the company’s business units in both Scotland and Norway.

Andreas Soraa, Mowi’s Managing Director of Raw Materials & Trade, said: “I have worked with Georgina for several years and, while I am sorry to see her depart, I would like to thank her for the dedication, commitment and passion she’s brought to her role and to Mowi. I’m sure all who have worked with her as friends and colleagues will join me in wishing her all the very best for the future.”

Wright said her career with Mowi has included many highlights, picking out particularly the company’s evolution toward an integrated value chain, paving the way for key developments such as sourcing vegetable oils as a partial replacement of fish oil and being the first Scottish salmon company to export to mainland China, as well as Mowi holding the Royal Warrant of Appointment for the supply of fresh Scottish salmon to the Royal Household.

Most recently, Wright chaired the Scottish Salmon Industry Brexit Working Group, bringing together all Salmon Scotland member companies, to ensure the industry was best prepared for the complications of Brexit.

She commented: “Mowi’s successful export of the first truck of Scottish seafood in to the EU on Saturday 2 January 2021 as Brexit dawned has been a more recent highlight, for sure.”

This sector-wide Brexit collaboration including hauliers, Seafood Scotland and Scotland Food & Drink has been recognised and shortlisted for a “Collaboration Award” at the Aquaculture UK 2022 awards gala taking place in Aviemore, Scotland, on 4 May.

Wright said: “It is good to leave on a market high! It has been a privilege to work in such an amazing sector for such a long period of time. I would like to thank the many colleagues and customers all around the world that I have had the pleasure of working with over the past three decades. The passion the salmon sector has for its wonderful product is second to none.”
