Japan gets taste of Tartan Salmon

THE Scottish Salmon Company is targeting new export markets in Japan, introducing its Tartan Salmon brand at the Japan Seafood Expo 2019 in Tokyo last week.

Japan is the second biggest consumer of seafood in the world and exports of Scottish salmon have risen four-fold in the last year.

Tartan Salmon has been developed in response to the growing demand in the Japanese export market.

The Scottish Salmon Company has seen a 122 per cent increase in exports in the last two years, with 58 per cent of revenues now derived from global exports.

The company sells its salmon to 26 countries, with a key focus on the Far East and the US.

Chief executive Craig Anderson said: ‘Scottish provenance is known, respected and coveted around the world, with demand for quality and traceability continuing to grow.

‘In 2016, we introduced tartan designs to our range of fresh Scottish salmon. These instantly recognisable Scottish designs were so popular that we have trademarked the ‘Tartan Salmon’ brand name to represent Scottish excellence in Japan.

‘We’re passionate about Scottish provenance and bringing the finest quality Scottish salmon to worldwide markets. We were delighted to unveil our Tartan Salmon brand at the Seafood Expo in Tokyo.’

The company said its Tartan Salmon is raised in the remote western Highlands and islands and is fully traceable from loch to plate.
