Industry body aims to educate with animations

Have you ever struggled to explain to family and friends why salmon is pink, or what the facts are about sea lice? If so, help is at hand. Salmon Scotland, formerly the Scottish Salmon Producers’ Organisation, has launched a series of public information animations about Scottish salmon and the salmon farming sector.

The series of eight animations, created by marketing agency Denvir Marketing, touch on a variety of topics from How Do we Provide a Good Quality Environment for our Salmon? to Are Salmon Troubled by Parasites? and include colourful visuals and an informative voiceover to help people understand the facts about the UK’s favourite fish.

The series of animations will be launched today (Monday 22 November) with a film addressing the question Why Are Salmon Pink? with the others in the series released weekly afterwards on Salmon Scotland’s You Tube channel, social media platforms and website.

Salmon Scotland’s Chief Executive Tavish Scott said:  “We thought it would be really beneficial to put together a series of short videos to help people gain a better understand of salmon farming. These tackle the myths and preconceptions about the salmon farming industry that we correct on an almost daily basis.

“The salmon farming sector is vital to the Scottish economy, with more than 10,000 people across the country working to ensure we get healthy salmon on our plates. It’s therefore really important that people understand the hard work and effort that goes into breeding healthy, sustainable and tasty fish.”

The animations will also be availablew to view online at Salmon Scotland’s resource centre.
