Salmon price vince
A fresh salmon price surge is on ice for the time being due to the weather conditions in Europe.
Figures from Statistics Norway show they fell by 8% between 5 January and 11 January (week two).

A brief rise just after Christmas, to just over NOK 100, did not last long. The week two figure represents a drop of NOK 8.07 to NOK 92.33 per kilo.

The export quantity picked up, however, from 13,496 tons to 21,000 tons, a rise of  just over 55%, and is expected to increase further as markets return to normal.

The fresh salmon market is still in a semi-sleepy state after the festive holiday, but weather and other factors have been affecting prices.

Much of Europe has been covered in heavy snow, which has held up the movement of fish and sent prices down.

A number of airports, including the import hub at Schiphol in the Netherlands, which distributes fish into Europe, was forced to restrict traffic last week because of the weather. And there have been problems is getting salmon out of northern Norway, due to snow affecting rail routes and airports.

The salmon market is not expected to return to normal until the weather situation improves.

Frozen salmon prices in week two rose slight to NOK 77.86 per kilo on an export volume of 348 tons.

The Statistics Norway figures includes all weight classes and fish sold on contract, and is often different to what buyers pay.
