Cod farmer Gadus changes name

The Gadus group, one of Norway’s up and coming cod farming companies, has changed its name. It is now called Ode, which it says reflects a new chapter and new direction for the business.

The company, which operates from seven sites in Norway, said the ongoing aim is to develop innovative cod-related products for sale both at home and abroad.

CEO Ola Kvalheim said: “The consumer is often emotionally driven, and there is a great need for good storytelling to create interest and sales.

“That is why we have made the choice to reposition the entire company to focus on the international consumer market, while also showing that we are proud of what we have created so far and that we operate aquaculture.”

He added: “Ode must become a food producer, and not just an innovative breeder. Our ambitions are to develop, design and market a number of different cod products. Ode’s ambition is to become a globally leading producer of protein-rich seafood.

“Over 85 employees of all ages, with several different nationalities and with very different backgrounds [will] work together to ensure future generations have access to healthy food based on sustainable principles.”

Ode said that cod is a sought after fish that has shaped food cultures across the world, adding: “Through our new name and communication, Ode wants to pay tribute to this delicacy. To the people and the traditions. An ode to the coast, an ode to the sea, an ode to the local community, an ode to the future, an ode to the cod.”
