SEACHILL is planning to invest in a significant expansion to its Grimsby production site as it gears up for continued growth.
The company became part of Hilton Foods last year in an £80 million deal and has recently submitted a planning application to North East Lincolnshire (Grimsby) Council to build new production facilities.
Seachill is a major supplier to Tesco and Waitrose and owns the highly successful Saucy Fish Co brand, which is now making great headway in the United States.
If approved, as seems almost certain, the expansion would create at least 80 extra jobs. I t will include increased production facilities, welfare facilities, loading docks, and plant rooms.
In a planning statement to the council, the company said: ‘The main purpose of the site is the primary processing and packing of chilled and frozen seafood, including smoked fish and added value products.
‘The original factory was established in 1998 and has considerably expanded over the years, with continued success in both the own label and retail sectors. The site constantly innovates and invests in new equipment to stay ahead in a competitive market.’
Seachill said its current primary processing unit was running at full capacity and in order to keep skill sets together needed to expand.
It has also recently acquired the neighbouring Ocean Bounty processing premises to enable further growth.
The current workforce numbers around 850 people and that number should grow to 930 once the project is completed.
Hilton Foods said in a recent trading update that its new acquisition was performing well.
