More than one month into the conflict, the war in Ukraine continues to have dire consequences for the people of that country and it is also impacting on people and businesses around the world.

In the April issue of Fish Farmer, which you can read here online, we look at what this means for the aquaculture industry, in terms of disrupted trade, limited supplies of materials for feed and rising costs.

On a more positive note, 2022 has seen the revival of trade shows in the sector, which are returning to their traditional in-person formats. In this month’s issue we preview two of the most eagerly awaited events: Seafood Expo Global/Seafood in Barcelona, later this month, and Aquaculture UK in Aviemore, due to take place over 3-5 May.

We’ve been talking to the organisers and exhibitors, and can report that the buzz for both of these events is definitely building. Fish Farmer is also delighted to be the sponsor for the Finfish Farmer of the Year category at the UK Aquaculture Awards, with the winner to be announced on 3 May.

Also in this issue we look at the challenge of predator protection, and ask why Scotland appears to have the toughest regime of any salmon-producing nation when it comes to licensing acoustic deterrents.

You can also read about some of the latest developments in fish health; the hopes that “seafood tourism” will help to both attract and inform the public; and, in our Careers special, see some of the great opportunities out there to build a career in aquaculture.

We hope you enjoy this issue and, if you are attending Aquaculture UK in Aviemore, please drop in and see us at Stand 175.
