Tesco forced to scrap salmon campaign07 April, 2014 –

SUPERMARKET giant Tesco has had to bin its ‘100% Scottish’ salmon campaign after admitting that some of its products were imported from Norway.

Stores across the UK have been promoting their Scottish farmed salmon products with a raft of Scottish emblems, flags and slogans.

However, the ‘Scottishness’ of the promotion has been scaled down after it was pointed out the company that a percentage of farmed salmon originated as eggs imported from Norway.

Having said that, a report by the Food and Drink Federation claims that Scottish salmon exports have risen exponentially over the last year and are worth around £465 million a year to the economy.

Scotland is now the second largest producer of Atlantic farmed salmon after Norway, with Scottish firms exporting over 13 million salmon to 55 countries.
