Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards deadline for 2013 looms – Fishfarmer Magazine

Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards deadline for 2013 looms13 February, 2013 –

WITH the deadline for entries for the 2013 Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards less than a month away, The Crown Estate has issued a reminder for entries and nominations from those who still wish to participate.

There is additional emphasis this year on the role of the farm manager and the role producers play in their local communities.

Alex Adrian, Aquaculture Operations Manager of The Crown Estate, said: “We have brought a fresh focus to some of the award categories. For example, the Community Initiative Award will honour the producer who best demonstrates a productive engagement with their local communities, responding to their interests. This is particularly important for those based in remote coastal areas.”

An Outstanding Contribution Award will recognise those who play a key role in the industry but are not necessarily in the public eye. There will also be a Seafood Product Award which will showcase work to increase the visibility of farmed seafood products.

The awards are open to everyone involved in the Scottish marine aquaculture industry, no matter how large or small, who:

• Employ the highest standards of aquaculture husbandry

• Supply Scottish marine aquaculture products to local, national and international markets

• Farm with a high level of environment awareness; and

• Deliver a high-quality product

All award submissions must be received by midday on Monday 11 March. A shortlist will be published in May with winners announced at a ceremony and dinner to be held at Prestonfield House in Edinburgh on Thursday 13 June.
