4 Liaison Officers 14 August, 2009 – Net Gain Developing North Sea Marine Conservation ZonesThe Net Gain MCZ Project has been set up to plan and develop a network of Marine Conservation Zones (MCZs) in the North Sea through a stakeholder led process. The goal of the MCZ network will be to contribute to the UK Governments commitment of establishing an ecologically coherent network of effectively managed Marine Protected Areas by 2012 with the aim to safeguard marine biodiversity and to ensure the long-term sustainability of marine resources.To help achieve this goal, Net Gain is looking for people who want to make a real contribution to the conservation and sustainable use of our seas and we have the following positions available:£20,000 – £23,000 pro rata. Full time, part time/job share considered.We are recruiting Liaison Officers to work in four regions of the Net Gain project area: Northeast; Yorkshire and Humber; East Midlands; Eastern England. You will build effective relationships with marine stakeholders and collect evidence that will be used to plan Marine Conservation Zones. The Liaison Officers will be the principal link between the Net Gain project team and marine stakeholders such as commercial fishermen, sea anglers and the recreational sector. You will play a key role in building awareness about the project, its goals and the importance of gaining good information of where maritime activities are concentrated. You will spend the majority of your time in coastal locations, discussing the project and using a questionnaire and mapping technique to collect activity data and knowledge from stakeholders through interviews.You should have a good knowledge and understanding of marine activities, in the English North Sea, e.g. sea angling, commercial fishing, off shore renewables or other commercial interests. You should have a higher level education in a relevant subject (marine biology, fisheries, ocean sciences, environmental science or related subject), professional qualifications, or experience gained in a maritime industry.
