Positive first quarter output from Icelandic salmon farmer
Iceland salmon company Arctic Fish almost doubled its output during the first three months of this year.
The company produced 6,029 metric tons between January and March this year against 3,140 tons in the same period in 2025.
This has given the company a positive outlook for the rest of the year, and its harvest guidance has been increased to 18,000 tons.
The standing biomass is 13,716 tons (up 21% year on year). Arctic Fish said the biological performance in the quarter was above expectations mainly due to higher seawater temperatures.
Arctic Fish is also forecasting lower cost levels, with cost reduction measures continuing to be a high priority for the business going forward.
The company said the record output in 2025 has had some positive effect this year, but is expected to have more of an impact in 2027.
The improvement in output has also brought its financial rewards, with revenues increasing from €22.1m (£19m) in Q1 2025 to €38.6m (£33.5m) this time.
The operational EBIT quadrupled from €500,000 (£435,000) to €2m (£1.74m).
The licence portfolio for Arctic Fish is 29,800 tonnes MAB (Maximum Allowed Biomass) and includes licences covering 10 farming areas in five different fjords, all located in the Westfjords area of Iceland.
Its salmon is eventually sold under the branding of “Mowi Arctic” utilising the substantial synergies that are available through the majority owner. Mowi owns 51.28% of the shares in the company.
