A RARE Chinese sturgeon is clinging to life in Shanghai. The 200-kilogram fish was accidentally caught by a fisherman near Chongming Island on Friday.
According to CCTV.com, the fish has 27 wounds on its body, severe cuts to the head and tail, and its protective mucous has been badly damaged. Vets say the fish is showing some signs of recovery, but remains weak.
It is under 24-hour care and will be given further X-ray and Ultrasound tests this week. The Chinese sturgeon is an endangered species and is under Class A state protection.
