World Champion with Sterling White Halibut Published: 25 January, 2007
FRANCE won the overall title and Marine Harvest sponsored chef Sven Erik Renaa of Norway was awarded the Best Seafood Prize in yesterday’s Bocuse d’Or, the unofficial world championship for chefs in Lyon, France.
Sterling White Halibut from Marine Harvest was the main fish dish in the final.
Superchef Mr Renaa was but a teaspoon from the top of the podium after a breathtaking match with France, Denmark and Switzerland as his main opponents. The winner was Fabrice Desvignes, France.
Picking among 24 top dishes the jury awarded Sven Erik Renaa the special prize for Best Seafood.
I have a particular love for the halibut and had a very good feeling
for my seafood dish. Unfortunately the others were incredibly good in
the other diciplines, says Renaa, who thanked his sponsor
Marine Harvest for having given him the opportunity to prepare his
championship menu and train extensively before the championship.
Sven Erik Renaa has aimed for the Bocuse dOr and the world championship for years. This year he finally qualified after having won the national Chef of the Year contest in Norway.
When I finally succeeded in the qualification contest, I am very glad
it was in the year when halibut was the main fish dish. The fish is
exclusive and very versatile, and I know it very well from the childhood on, comments Renaa.
We are extremely proud of Sven Erik. His and his opponents achievement with Sterling White Halibut in Bocuse dOr opens new markets for one the worlds premium fishes, says Managing Director Magnus Skretting of Marine Harvest Cold Water Species.
Being chosen for the finals guarantees the outstanding quality and the worlds leading chefs and trade press journalists that had the luck to taste the halibut dishes in the final are convinced that halibut is a future gastronomic trend winner, he says.
