Workshop on fish farming technologies for SMEs Published:  10 November, 2006

A WORKSHOP entitled ‘Fish farming technologies for SMEs – Technology challenges and market opportunity’ will take place on November 23 in Brussels.

The aim of the event is to address future trends and needs in key technologies and research in the area of fish farming. It will focus on the dissemination of knowledge, technology uptake in traditional SME sectors, as well as business opportunities.

The European Commission, DG Research – Unit “Research and SMEs” – jointly with DG FISH will hold a one-day dissemination workshop in the area of fish farming technologies. Results from EU funded research projects will be presented by project participants. The event is targeted towards SMEs*, SME associations, research organisations, public authorities and other actors. It will provide an opportunity to disseminate RTD results for a selection of projects and facilitate networking opportunities.

This one-day workshop will give an overview of objectives, challenges and results from ongoing and recently completed projects funded under the 6th Framework Programme (FP6) and its SME specific measures. Furthermore, projects involving SMEs in the thematic priority areas will be presented.

The workshop will comprise two project sessions. The first one will focus on key science issues and cutting edge technologies and the second on particular applications in order to improve the competitiveness of traditional SMEs. Key speakers on broader cross-cutting issues will sketch out the regulatory, technological and economic framework for SMEs in the fish farming industry.
