The US Congress is being pressed to introduce tariffs to make imported shrimp more expensive.

THE US government is being urged to introduce tariffs on imported shrimps.

American shrimp processors have now joined US shrimp producers in calling for barriers to be introduced to make foreign shrimp more expensive.

The American Shrimp Processors Association wants Congress to enact new tariffs to protect US processors and producers from competition from abroad.

The Association has also donated $100,000 to funding lobbying efforts.

Shrimp processors and shrimp boat captains are compiling figures to back their claims that their businesses have been hit by imports.
