THE Ohio State University’s Stone Laboratory on Gibraltar Island has announced its guest lecture series for this summer, which includes the topics of climate change, fishery management and Lake Erie’s Dead Zone.

Lectures will be held at Stone Laboratory on Thursdays and will be broadcast live into 333D Kottman Hall on the OSU main campus.

Featured speakers are authorities in their respective fields, giving students and guests a unique opportunity to learn more about issues facing Lake Erie.

“We have an outstanding slate of speakers for 2008.

“Each is an excellent speaker and a recognised leader and expert in their field, and the talks cover a wide range of critical issues facing society,” states Dr Jeff Reutter, director of Ohio Sea Grant College Programme.

. 6/12 Chris Korleski, director, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, “Global Warming: Science or Religion”

. 6/19 Dr. Jeff Reutter, director, Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory, Ohio State University, “A Brief History of Stone Laboratory and Update on the Current Status of Lake Erie”

. 7/3 Dr. Stu Ludsin, Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology, Ohio State University, “Hypoxia Alters Species Distributions and Interactions: Implications for Food Webs and Fisheries”

. 7/10 Ray Petering, Ohio Div. of Wildlife, executive administrator fisheries management and research, “Fisheries Management and Research in Ohio”

“We are pleased to invite the public to attend these free talks and will again offer a brief tour of Gibraltar Island prior to each talk,” says Dr Reutter.

“The public can take a free Put-in-Bay Water Taxi from the Boardwalk Restaurant Dock at 7:15 PM before each lecture.”
